Hundreds of people gathered in Wandsworth on Sunday 18th October 2026 to access free groceries and essential household items at an event organised by Pastor Tobi Adegboyega, commonly referred to as PT, and members of the SPAC Nxtion Community.
The initiative formed part of the Hope, Help & Health campaign, with food distributed through the charity City Welfare. The event was open to people regardless of age or background, allowing visitors to select groceries and other essentials at no cost.
Support for Families
For some attendees, the provision offered immediate assistance with household expenses. Shan Harris, a mother of two, described the impact on her family.
I honestly didn't know how I was going to survive for the week, but now this blessing called 'free supermarket' has come.
The event relied on volunteers to assist visitors and distribute supplies. Their involvement formed part of the organisers’ broader effort to provide practical support to local residents.
PT said the initiative was intended to address both material needs and the experience of financial hardship. He said:
We want to make life a bit better for people. Make people feel like there are people who still care and that there are still good people in the world.
Who Is PT?
Pastor Tobi Adegboyega, commonly known as PT, is the founder and leader of the SPAC Nxtion Community. Since 2005 he has worked with young people from low-income backgrounds through mentorship and leadership development, and he gained public recognition in 2016 after large gatherings of young people in London.
SPAC Nxtion Family is a faith-based community whose stated vision is to love God, love people and build a prosperous society. It describes itself as a platform for young people to discover their purpose and develop as leaders, using faith as the foundation for change.
Activities for Young People
Alongside the food distribution, a gaming area was operated by the Nxtion Sports Association (NSA), described by the organisers as a global multi-sport association. The facility included nine screens and a Pac-Man station, with young visitors able to play games and access free snacks and drinks.
PT said providing young people with a supervised environment and constructive activities was one of the initiative’s objectives. He said:
If we can help them from not being a criminal for one day, we have done a good work.
His remarks reflect the organisers’ stated approach to youth engagement. However, the longer-term effect of the activities on young people’s behaviour or involvement in crime was not established by the event itself.
Health Checks Included
The programme also included a dedicated room where health professionals associated with a guild initiative offered free blood pressure checks and body mass index (BMI) readings.
The service provided attendees with an opportunity to access basic health measurements alongside the food distribution. The event did not establish how many people used the service or whether participants were referred for further medical assessment.
Describing the initiative, PT said:
This is our service to humanity.
Plans for Future Events
PT said the free supermarket will return over the Christmas period, with events planned for 24th, 25th and 26th December 2026. Further details will be shared by the organisers closer to the time.
For attendees, the immediate benefit was access to food and essential items without charge. The initiative also raises a wider question about the role of community-led organisations in providing practical assistance as households contend with the cost of everyday living.
